Travel : Gran Canaria

Na twee jaar zonder een reisje naar de zon, was het afgelopen November eindelijk zo ver! 8 dagen in het zonnige Gran Canaria. Een beetje spannend in Covid tijden, maar ik moet zeggen dat we hier absoluut geen last van hebben gehad. Oke, op veel plekken moest je een mondmasker dragen maar na twee jaar zijn we hier allemaal al wel aan gewend. Ik neem je mee naar mijn favoriete plekjes in Gran Canaria.

Where to stay?

Een echte aanrader, Hotel Tabaiba Princess. Het is een prachtig all in resort omringd door tientallen palmbomen. Op 1km van het hotel vind je de duinen, en ietsje verder kom je aan de boulevard en aan het strand. Vervelen ga je je hier zeker niet, er zijn verschillende zwembaden en zelfs een adults only pool. Doorheen de dag zijn er ook tal van activiteiten voor jong en oud. 

Het eten in het hotel is ook echt top. Met de all in formule heb je echt heel de dag door eten. Je hebt verschillende buffetten aan het zwembad, met warm en koud eten voor overdag, en in de avond is er ook een uitgebreid buffet in het hotel. Zin in eens wat anders? Geen probleem! Er is een Italiaans en een Aziatisch a la carte restaurant in het hotel.

In het hotel heb je ook een soort van boulevard, met verschillende winkeltjes. In het hotel zelf heb je een apotheek. Altijd handig als je eens dringend wat nodig hebt! De kamers zijn mooi ruim en heel netjes, en met een beetje geluk heb je een prachtig uitzicht op de tropische tuin en het zwembad.

What to do?

Een uitstapje naar Las dunas de Maspalomas is echt een must. Je waant je echt in de woestijn en het uitzicht is prachtig. Las dunas is ook een naaktstrand, dus schrik niet als je hier en daar wat naakte mensen tegenkomt. Kleine tip, neem zeker genoeg water mee. Ik was letterlijk uitgeput toen ik de duinen terug uitkwam :D

Holiday world Maspalomas is ook echt super tof om s'avonds te bezoeken. Je kan hier bowlen, lekker eten, en er is een mini pretpark en een speelhal met allemaal verschillende spelletjes.

Boulevard el Faro, de dijk aan het strand met tal van restaurants, bars en winkeltjes. Hier heb je ook de iets chiquere winkels zoals Armani, Lacoste etc.

De K1 food & lounge is zeker een aanrader als je op zoek bent naar lekker eten en cocktails. Cafe del Mar is ook een bezoekje waard. Hier is elke avond wel een muzikale show en heerlijke cocktails.

Mijn absolute favoriet, Puerto de Mogan. Een prachtig havenstadje ongeveer 30min van het hotel. Het is een super klein dorpje, maar echt zo mooi. Het staat vol wit/gekleurde huisjes omringd door prachtige bloemen. Hier moet je zijn als je op zoek bent naar de perfecte vakantie foto ;) Je kan hier ook genieten van een dagje aan het strand en uiteraard zijn er tal van restaurantjes en winkeltjes. Let wel op, de taxi naar hier is niet goedkoop. Wij betaalde ongeveer €40 per rit.

Wil je graag eens een avondje op stap? Dan is de Aqua ocean club echt een aanrader. Een openluchtdiscotheek vlak aan het strand. Super mooi interieur en echt een fijne sfeer.

After two years without a trip to the sun, it was finally time last November! 8 days in sunny Gran Canaria. A bit exciting in Covid times, but I have to say that we have had absolutely no problems with this. Okay, in many places you had to wear a mouth mask, but after two years we are all used to this. I will take you to my favorite places in Gran Canaria. 

Where to stay? 

Highly recommended, Hotel Tabaiba Princess. It is a beautiful all-in resort surrounded by dozens of palm trees. You will find the dunes 1 km from the hotel, and a little further you have the boulevard and the beach. You will certainly not be bored here, there are several swimming pools and even an adults-only pool. Throughout the day there are also plenty of activities for young and old.

The food in the hotel is also really good. With the all-in formula you really have food all day long. You have several buffets at the pool, with hot and cold food for the day, and in the evening there is also an extensive buffet in the hotel. Fancy something different? No problem! There is an Italian and an Asian a la carte restaurant in the hotel. 

In the hotel you also have a kind of boulevard, with various shops. There is also a pharmacy in the hotel itself. Always handy if you need something urgently! The rooms are nicely spacious and very neat, and with a bit of luck you have a beautiful view of the tropical garden and the swimming pool.

 What to do? 

A trip to Las Dunas de Maspalomas is a must. You really think you are in the desert and the view is beautiful. Las Dunas is also a nudist beach, so don't be alarmed if you encounter some naked people here and there. Small tip, be sure to bring enough water. I was literally exhausted when I came back out of the dunes :D 

Holiday world Maspalomas is also really great to visit in the evening. You can go bowling, eat well, and there is a mini amusement park and an arcade with all kinds of different games. 

Boulevard el Faro, the boulevard on the beach with numerous restaurants, bars and shops. Here you also have the slightly more chic shops such as Armani, Lacoste etc.

The K1 food & lounge is definitely recommended if you are looking for good food and cocktails. Cafe del Mar is also worth a visit. Every evening there is a musical show and delicious cocktails. 

My absolute favorite, Puerto de Mogan. A beautiful harbor town about 30min from the hotel. It is a super small village, but really so beautiful. It is full of white / coloured houses surrounded by beautiful flowers. This is the place to be if you're looking for the perfect holiday photo ;) You can also enjoy a day at the beach here and of course there are plenty of restaurants and shops. Please note, the taxi to here is not cheap. We paid about €40 per ride.

Ready for a night out? Aqua ocean club is the place to be. It's an outdoor club with a great vibe and interior, and ofcourse great music.
